130. Ginger lemonade (American recipe)

The calendar still says May, but outside proper summer is slowly arriving. Hot, isn't it? Last year I already shared two refreshing drinks — the recipe for an alcoholic mojito and the recipe for classic grandma's lemonade. Now it's time for a drink that is every bit as tasty and invigorating — ginger lemonade (a sort of non-alcoholic version of ginger ale). Details and photos of this sweet, heavily fizzy ginger-flavoured drink are under the cut.
Cooking time ≈ 1 hour.
Ingredients:
- 5 lemons
- fresh ginger root (≈ 6–8 cm)
- 1 glass of sugar (or honey)
Squeeze the juice out of the lemons and get rid of the pips.

Cut the skin off the ginger root.

Grate the ginger on a fine grater (you should get about 3 tablespoons of ginger pulp).

In a small saucepan mix a glass and a half of water, the lemon juice, the ginger and the sugar (honey). Bring to the boil and leave over low heat for about twenty minutes.

Strain the hot mixture and put it in the fridge for an hour. Pour the chilled ginger lemonade into glasses.

Dilute it with cold water or unsalted sparkling mineral water to taste, decorate with lemon, and the refreshing summer drink is ready.

Bon appétit!
